Cancer sucks. But there can still be fun and good times with it. Here are some of my happy times.

Father Herb and Sister Sylvia’s visit - They brought me back to my Church.

Hosting visitors with my wife Trrrr - Well, mostly watching her host. She’s good at it.

Visits from my son AJ - Just “hanging” with him or watching a video together is nice. We had never done that before.

My mother and sister’s visit at the chemo lounge in mid-January - We laughed and joked and fooled around like old times.

The visit from my ex-sister-in-law and her family - I hadn’t seen them in a long time.

Receiving hundreds of cards and notes from “Chemo Angels” - This is a support group than my daughter Heather signed me up with. They live up to the name.

Tuesday night dates with my wife - They ended for a while when I was in bad shape. It’s good to have them back.

My visit with Trudy and Greg - These are friends from my childhood. They brought me back to my childhood that day.

A surprise visit from Dennis, my friend from Georgia - Arranged by my wife, this came at a time when I really needed it.

A visit from Charles, my friend from Toronto - Hearing his philosophy again brought back old times.

The visit from my niece Cheryl in October - I was at my worst and she brought flowers for Terry. She was the first one to recognize the caregiver, who really deserved it. She brought me an apple pie!!!

The surprise visit from Joey, Terry’s son - It made me happy to see Trrrr happy.

Visits from my daughter Heather at the chemo lounge - She is there on almost every one of my long days. They aren’t as long when she comes.

All the time with Trrrr in the hospital - Whether I was an admitted patient, an out patient, or just getting a test done Trrrr was always there. She spent countless hours keeping me company, waiting all day while I was in surgery and wheeling me around if needed. While she was waiting she would be crocheting things for charities. And she was there for me.

Daily phone conversations with my mother - I've neve talked to her as much. It's nice.

Going to see Christmas lights with my daughter and then my mother and her companion - Yep. Sometimes it's the little things.

Hearing from two of my nieces - One night in early February I heard from Cheryl, my niece from my current marriage and Michele, my niece from my prior marriage. Both of them expressed love in a way that really made me feel, well, loved. The love is mutual. They made it a great day.

When Terry started laughing again - It was the week of Feb. 9, 2009 when I noticed that Trrrr seemed more relaxed and enjoying things again. See the Feb. 12 blog post for details. I love to see her laugh.

Matt's Dinner - My son's friend Matt recruited his mother to help him prepare a dinner for Terry and I. Then he delivered it. This act of kindness by them meant a lot to us.

The weekend of March 7-8, 2009 - I felt the sun again and had two great visits from two great friends. See the March 9 blog post for details.

Lunch with my godmother - My mother arranged and hosted a lunch with Eleanor (Joanne), my godmother whom I haven't seen in more than 30 years. It was a delightful afternoon. We talked non-stop and I got to know her on a level I hadn't known before since I really only knew her as a child. She's a cool lady who shares my political views.

Our April Trip to Atlanta - We had a great time with our great friends Denis and Carol. Details are in the April 6 blog post.

The Weekend of April 18-19 - It included a trip to Atlantic City with my good friend Vince and a baseball game/pizza party with my niece's family

Fourth of July Weekend, 2009 - Terry hosted a birthday party for our friend Linda. I say Terry since I was little help, practically useless because it fell during my treatment week and I had no energy at all. We had a great time, with great friends and of course Terry did a great job.

Easter Weekend 2010 - See my April 5, 2010 post for details.

Walking My Daughter Down the Aisle - A day I will never forget and a joy I will continue feeling.
